Anything else flowering? thanks! edd Lajitas is a small community along RR-170 near the borders of Big Bend State Ranch and Big Bend National Park. RR-170 (El Camino del Rio) runs along the Rio Grande through Big Bend State Ranch from Lajitas to Presidio.     RichO Hunting Texas Wildflowers    Report

03-14-2006, 10:05 AM MaryB Joined on 03-08-2006 Posts 7 Re: Bluebonnets in Big Bend Edd,    It's a breathtakingly spectacular drive from Terlingua to Lajitas (hopefully the road construction has been completed) and then Redman, Presidio, Shafter and finishing in Marfa.  Allow 6 hours, it's a very narrow road with many curves and few areas to allow for passing.  The Highway Patrol patrol the highway so do not speed.  ( I learned my lesson last year.)     If this is your first visit to the Big Bend area, I would suggest the National Park..............it is worth the drive!      Mary    Report

I would interested in any information from your contacts about the wildflower bloom in that area. I was planning a trip to Big Bend State Ranch this year, but due to the lack of rain I felt it would not be a good year.   RichO Hunting Texas Wildflowers    Report

Davis and see reports that there are a few bluebonnets along Highway 118 from the National Park and the Yuccas are starting to bloom along the road from Ft. Davis to Alpine.  I will be receiving an update on Big Bend from someone who is visiting the park.  I understand there were wildfires in the Basin last week.      Mary    Report

I have been there before and I was camping off the South Rim. You are so right that Big Bend is worth the drive. This time around I will be with a small group of photographers and the one who is leading is a Big Bend veteran. Should be some great fun!! two cents and then some ...    Report

03-15-2006, 9:15 AM Anonymous Re: Mary...which way do you? Yes, I have been to Big Bend Ranch State Park several times; unfortunately I have scheduled other activities for this year's visit. I will be leaving Dallas and driving to Austin to pick up my companion and onward to Sonora, Ozona and then on to Ft. Davis.  I usually break up the trip by staying overnight in Sonora.  Last year the wildflowers were absolutely gorgeous from Ozona to Ft. Stockton. Mary

Rich,   I usually travel south on 67 through Cleburne, Dublin (got to have my "real" DP fix), Brownwood, Santa Anna and then Sonora for the night.  Onward on Highway 10 to Ft.
