Hi -- I am looking for a field of bluebonnets to take a family picture in this weekend.  I have read Hunting Texas Wildflowers and driven 300 miles in and around San Antonio this past week searching for a field of bluebonnets -- with no real luck.  Do you know anywhere?  I live at 1604 and 281 N -- so the closer the better, but I am willing to drive up to 45 min away.  Please help!  Thanks a bunch!

See this post:

This is the only field I have found this season. I just got back from a tour of Mason County and it is really bleak out there. I only found roadside bluebonnets and even then only narrow strips mainly hugging the roadside.

The field above is on private property, so you can only take photos from the shoulder of the road. You would have to get permission to enter the field to take photos.

This is pretty much all I have found this year in the way of fields.

See the reports in the East Texas section for possible fields near Brenham. I am planning a trip there later in the week or early next week depending on the weather.

Wildseed Farms (east of Fredericksburg on US 290) has wildflower viewing trials with a bluebonnet field where you get in the field and take photos.

Wildseed Farms bluebonnets are in full bloom: http://www.wildseedfarms.com/bloom_update.htm

Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center also has areas for photos in the bluebonnets.

(Check with them before you go, http://www.wildflower.org )

Wow!  Thank you for the quick response!  Any idea how to go about contacting the owners?  I was considering driving up there today and knocking on their door -- and offering money to carefully use a corner...

I have been to the other farms -- and there are beautiful flowers, but it does not have the natural look I am after.

I think contacting the owners would be the way to go. I saw a private residence behind the field and then what looked like a building for an organization.

Hi

I did contact the owners -- they were so suprised that someone actually asked!  They said yesterday there were people with ladders taking pictures in their field... and no one has ever been polite enough to ask.  They also warned me that they killed a rattlesnake on the property yesterday.

Thanks again for your help!

Gena,

Thanks for following up and letting us know about the owners. I always strongly advise people to respect the privacy and property of others. I commend you for taking the time to do so.

Let us know how things turn out for your shoot. It looks like rain for most of the week, so I am not sure the weather will cooperate.
