Eagle Lake: Calhoun Road

One of the famest wildflower routes within reach of Houston is Calhoun Road near Eagle Lake, Texas. Eagle Lake, Texas is the former home of Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg, Texas.

The area around Eagle Lake got above normal rainfall during October, 2005 and near normal rainfall from Nov - Feb. Since I was headed to Industry via Columbus, I decided to take a pilgrimage to the home town area of Wildseed Farms. The entire area is known more for its rice fields and sand/gravel pits than wildflowers, but I did find evidence of its past wildflower glory.

Paintbrush, prairie larkspur and spider lilies were also observed.
