Wildflowers Abound Near Salado
Reply Quote

On my way back from Dallas, I stopped along the west service of road of I-35 just south of Salado. Strips of mealy sage mixed with yellow prickly pear cactus blooms caught my eye as I sped past at 70 miles an hour. What impressed me was how extensive the mealy sage was. A section over 1/2 mile long and 200 feet wide was mixed with mealy sage and blooming cactus.

I spotted several monarch butterflies and was able to capture this one enjoying a Texas thistle.

A bit further down the road was a large section of firewheels (Indian blanket).

I was able to spot several other wildflowers along the service road including, Engelmann daisies, a few bluebonnets, and Engelmann's salvia.
