Each year a local shopping center has a wildflower seed give away in late October and each year I show up and collect my packets of seeds. I am lucky enough to have a small natural area in my side yard here in the Woodlands that has many volunteer wildflowers such as Lantana, Beauty Berry, etc. So I always clear and rake smooth a small flat area that is surrounded by Mother Nature's work. I pour all the seed packets into a bowl and mix well and sprinkle them by hand over this area. Then I take my rake and lightly tamp the area to make sure there is good seed to soil contact but I do not cover the seeds. I sprinkle the area lightly and keep it moist (not wet) for a week or so. Then I let nature take over and it is always such a wonderful surprise the follwing spring to see what comes up. The first year is was a wonderful variety, last year it was an amazing stand of rudbeckia and this year it is a thick healthy stand of Scarlet Phlox and Scarlet Clover: http://www.pbase.com/photomurage/image/41360161.jpg
It gives me a photo op at home and the neighbors get to enjoy a touch of wildflower color also. If I can remember I'll post the date and location of this year's seed give away for those close by that want to give it a try. What great fun but the bluebonnets never seems to make it ![Sad [:(]](/emoticons/emotion-6.gif)
Flowers will brighten your day whether mild or wild, Murry!
