Rain and more Rain!

Rich:

I was curious as to what the snow and freezing temperatures will do to the amount of flowers we will experience in the coming months. I know the rainfall will really help, but how will the cold weather affect the wildflowers?

Thanks!

Edd

I'm preparing my winter report right now and will talk more about this season's rainfall in the report. Basically, wildflowers do not need nor expect much rain during the winter.  Too much rain will likely not bode well for wildflower seedlings in low lying areas especially bluebonnet seedlings. For bluebonnet seedlings the ice will have little or no effect. The seedling plants might lose a few leaves, but the bluebonnet seedlings should be somewhat dormant right now waiting for the ground to warm and the spring rains to come.

I should have my full winter report published before Feb 1st. I was hoping to get out and do my winter survey of seedlings in the Hill Country, but the winter storm delayed my plans.
