I was in Big Bend last week (Mar 10-17) and the place was blooming with a variety of flowers along the road to Rio Grande Village (RGV) and flowers were along many hiking trails. The bluebonnets (BBs) were in large patches along the road to RGV from mile 8 to mile 19 or so.

I saw some BBs in the riverbed running through Estufa Canyon. Some BBs were as high as my belly button and I found a pale blue shade of BB as well.

Some cactus were beginning to bloom, much earlier than normal.

I had not seen Big Bend so green!

Hi Edd,

Thanks for the report on the Big Bend area. Sounds like you had lots of material to study for your botany trip.

We have had several reports posted. It looks like it will be a very good year in some parts and at least an average year in most parts. I am seeing wildflowers in locations I have not seen since 2004.
