I drove down to check on this report and also on the La Vernia -Floresville area. I will post a separate report on my findings in La Vernia.
The fields mentioned in the report above by Ted are fields of sandyland bluebonnets (Lupinus subcarnosus). The sandyland bluebonnet was the first nominee for the state flower of Texas. They are a bit different in appearance from the better known Texas bluebonnet (Lupinus texensis) variety.
There are three fields in row and each appears to be 3-5 acres in size. One of the fields is a slight hill and the bluebonnets disappear over the horizon of the hill. You can definitely smell the frangrance of the bluebonnets when the wind blows from the south. Oddly enough, the frangrance to me is a bit different than from the Lupinus texensis variety (might just be my imagination).
The fields run along FM-775 (FM-3444 on some maps) and are located just west of the intersection of FM-775 and US 181S. The location is about about 5 miles southeast of Elmendorf which is just southeast of San Antonio.
This is a photo of just one section of the middle field.

I found another field in the area along CR-128 south of FM-775, but the shoulders of CR-128 were very muddy and there not a good vantage point from the road to stop and get a photo.
