04-04-2008, 7:55 PM tony_texas Joined on 01-03-2006 Posts 30 Re: Brenham area April 1-6, 2008 Rich Yes, I have seen quite a wide variety although this is what I have always found in Brenham and one of the reasons I keep coming back (this is the 4th year in a row). Didn't do any more exploring - it got really cold and wet for a while.  Spent some more time at the Antique Rose Emporium in Independence after the rain stopped.  They have a nice art display in the chapel there this weekend and I spoke with a lady called Marilyn who is displaying flower photos, all taken in her own garden.  Worth a look if anyone's passing by.  Apologies for the number of pix in the pbase gallery taken in a decidedly non-wild setting! Ended the day like this with a pleasant if not spectacular sunset.  I need to play with some exposure blending on the bracketed RAW captures to see what I can make of it.  The one in the gallery is a simple Photoshop tweak of the in-camera jpg.  Have a feeling sunrise is going to be very nice with golden light raking across the landscape. 04-05-2008, 1:07 PM tony_texas Joined on 01-03-2006 Posts 30 Re: Brenham area April 1-6, 2008 I'll update in more depth tonight but I just passed by the Dos Brisas Ranch on FM1155 north of Chappell Hill.  What a sight!  While the setting might not quite be wild the wildflower carpet is amazing.  Lovely trees too and the road winding its way through the landscape.  Here's a couple to show what it looks like.  I'll do a better job tonight and add some to the gallery. A couple of other observations from today.  Zibilski Rd between FM2679 and Quail Run - the bluebonnets here are right at peak or still approaching peak.  Many still have the distinctive "coned cap".  The fragrance down there is lovely.  It's only one spot though not like last year. There is a very large mixed field where FM2447 leaves US290 near Chappell Hill. The sub-division Murry found on Valley Lane just north of Chappell Hill is quite something too.  Some of the front yards there are very nice.  I also found it good for macro work - lots of flowers were in pristine condition. I didn't do any more exploring.  I could convince myself that there's a little more blue showing than when I arrived but not a great change.  This will likely be my last post for this year's trip.  I will be editing my photos properly from the original RAW captures when I get back to Fort Worth.  When the final gallery is done I'll post a link. This trip has been the most fun despite it not being a banner year.  Still some great spots if you take the time to look.  Will try and get over to Ennis in a week or two and see what's happening there. Dense fog patches, heavy dew, sun occasionally peeking through and warming the light.  Ended the trip with this. I printed out the maps and photos you provided and charted routes.  My daughter and I had a blast on our annual wildflower photo shoot  thanks to you all. I'm new here and my name is Amy. We took our little conure named Manu- I think he drew more photos  than the wildflowers form people! Although I only have a digital Olympus 550 - I use it for everything including  digital imaging for websites.  I dream of having a great camera to take really great shots someday. We will be replacing the software this winter in time for Spring 2009 season. Thanks for the report and photos. I assume you took those in the Brenham area this year?
