Brenham area winding down for 2007

I had an unexpected surprise and got to go to Brenham today and must say that there are still some beautiful bluebonnet sites for those going to the Chappell Hill Bluebonnet Festival this weekend. The Phillipsburg Church Road field is big and beautiful, bluebonnets line both sides of highway 36 from Bellville to Brenham (even a big field next to WalMart), a nice field just outside of Brenham on highway 105 with long horn cattle as a bonus and the Lillian Farms B&B grounds are just amazing (unfortunately there is not a good place to pull off of FM1155 there). This is on FM1155 after it's first hard right turn at FM2193 towards Washington-On-The-Brazos and Dillard Road. However I must say that the bluebonnets are mostly past peak and closeup photography will not show them at their best. But vista shots are still very much in order through this weekend. I hope the weather is nice and you all can get out and enjoy the wild sights! BTW lots of May wildflowers are showing up in pink, purple and yellows. So there are some very nice mixes now.
Flowers will brighten your day whether mild or wild, Murry!

Murry,

Thanks for your report. Did you take any photos?

I would imagine the coreopsis will be showing up soon if not already.

Photos will be up some time this weekend

Rich, I did get a few photos taken even though I wasn't in control of the trip. :0)

FM1488 from Magnolia out to US290 is lined with coreopsis. What a wonderful sight indeed. They have started widening FM1488 from I45 to FM149 and then later they will do FM149 to US290 so the road sides are in for some rough times over the next few years. Photos are up at:

Spring wildflower photos are all up now

Here is the link to my 2007 spring wildflower photos plus a few surprises:  http://www.grigsbys.smugmug.com/gallery/2595319   If you have a fast broad band connection it is fun to watch them with the slideshow option but there 248 photos so it takes a while.  I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoyed shooting them?  The majority of them were shot in Washington County in and around Brenham.  All in all I think this are had an above average season!
