Welcome to the forum and wildflower hunting. Unfortunately the bluebonnets near Houston are past their prime and in most places severe decline. Fortunately there are other flowers taking their place along the roadsides. In the Woodlands (just north of Houston on I45) the scalet flax, wine cups and coreopsis are still going strong along most of the major streets. The roadsides of FM1488 between Magnolia and US290 are covered with coreopsis. The fields along highway 36 from Kenney to Brenham are still blue with bluebonnets even though they are past their prime time and there are lots of phlox right in Kenney. I'm sure a little driving would reveal even more wildflower treasures. Although not wild the flowers at Mercer Gardens on the north side of Houston are a treat to see and photograph all year long. Next year you should start your wildflower search in mid to late March and keep an eye on the sightings posted here. Again welcome and good luck!!
