I made a quick trip to Brenham today and ...

... the yellow wildflowers are doing quite well. Coreopsis, Mexican hats, daises, fire wheels, etc. There are a few bluebonnets in spots but they are pretty faded. The best spot was along FM 149 between TX 105 and FM 1488. There was one stretch of a couple miles that the east side of the roadway was solid yellow and they even got out into the fields. Unfortunately there is no good place to stop and take photos and that road is busy with traffic. Washington county looked pretty dry and could use a good soaking as we could here in The Woodlands also. I hope we don't have one of those extremely dry summers with no rain?

Thanks for the report Murry,

It looks like the area to the east of Austin/San Antonio to Houston is running about 2-3 inches below normal, but some rain has fallen in the past 30 days.

The recent pattern of dry air has been caused by two rather strong storms off the east coast drawing cooler drier air down from Canada. This has also blocked development of storms from the west from getting much further than the edge of the Hill Country.

This pattern should change coming up this week and the next, so rain might be coming soon.
