San Antonio: LP 1604 from IH 35 to IH 37

Hello Everyone!

I was in San Antonio the last two weeks and I saw lots of wildflowers on the south side of town, specifically LP 1604 from IH 35 to IH 37. One of the best spots was a little north of LP 1604 on Applewhite Road.

There were fields of flowers all along LP 1604: sunflowers, indian blanket, black-eyed susans, and horsemint.

First exit past LP 1604 on south bound IH 37 ( I think the exit is Priest Rd/Mathis Rd), on the NW corner as you come to the stop sign, I found a good-size stand of Engleman Daisies. Crossing the overpass to go northbound on IH 37, there were plenty of basketflower.

I have never seen so much color on the south side. You would do well to visit.

I also ran across Medina Natural Area on SH 16 (Palo Alto Rd), south of Watson Rd. It is a new city park that is on the Medina River. It is beautiful and has plenty of flowers and butterflies on the higher elevation trails. I saw some flowers I rarely see, if at all: leatherbell and baby blue bell.

Enjoy!

two cents and then some ...

Thanks for the report Edd,

I'm glad you found Medina River Natural Area. When I visited it earlier this year, I felt it would provide at least a few close up views of different wildflowers.

This is truly an incredible year for the May and June wildflowers. Conditions looked bleak earlier in the year, but rainfall since March really helped set the stage for a grand May-June show.

Thanks again for the report...
