When you mention Texas wildflowers, most will think of the beautiful displays of bluebonnets and painbrush in the spring. However, Texas is blessed with a large variety of wildflowers that and at least a few are always in bloom no matter whether spring, summer or fall.

In fact, there are several fall wildflowers that can put on a very lovely display given the correct conditions. Some these fall wildflower include:

Fall wildflowers in Texas come with an added bonus...Monarch Butterflies.  The Monarch migration routes cross through much of the Texas Hill Country.  Find a patch of frostweed blooming and you might find a Monarch or two to pose for you.

I took a short hike today at Friedrich Wilderness Park . A fair number of gayfeather/blazing star plants are just starting to bloom along the edges of the parking lot. Also saw snow-on-mountain, lantana, turk's cap, cardinal flower and a few others.

The area is really covered well with tall grass and bushes. Bind weed is making good use of its ability to grow up and around the tall plants gaining exposure to the sun.

The spring along the Water Trail is flowing very nicely.

Strangely missing were Maximilian sunflowers. I usually spot a few plants in the parking lot area.
