I got this email from Don Allen this morning and with his permission I thought I would add it to this thread:
Murry,
Well things look pretty dismal in Brenham. It does appear that it will be a late season, so there is still some hope for some areas, but I think it will be a fairly poor year for wildflowers in the Brenham area. I drove thru the southwest (Industry-Brenham) corridor, the NW corridor, and the NE corridor and did not see much of anything. I drove 1155 also to 105 then to Navasota and also did not see much of anything. The only nice area was the medians and roadsides of Highway 6 south of Navasota. Lots of milk vetch with some coreopsis, paintbrush and a few bluebonnets mixed in. I will probably go back out in a week or two to further test some new equipment but do not plan much wildflower photography this year, especially since I hear things are worse in the Hill Country. It is possible that the Cuero area may be decent this year, but I will probably wait for a good online report before making the drive.
We still had a good time at the Bed and Breakfast and for the first time my wife is interested in learning photography so I got a chance to teach her some.
Thanks,
Don
I appreciate you sharing your observations Don! I was a little more optimistic after my earlier trip out to Brenham that most of these recent reports but we all see things differently.
But we'll get what we get and we'll all make the best of it. Even in off years there are pockets of wild beauty and like Tony said it is such a pleasure to get out and roam the country roads for a few days. Tony what day do you think you might be having lunch at the airport diner in Brenham?
Flowers will brighten your day whether mild or wild, Murry!
