It's amazing what seeding and irrigation does for bluebonnets

There is a new park here in The Woodlands (just north of Houston off of I45) at Gosling and Creekside and the west end opposite the picnic pavillion is covered with bluebonnets in bloom (about 20%). If the weather stays warm this should be an amazing site by next weekend. Heck the camera lens doesn't know the difference between wild and mild :) I've added a few photos at this link: http://grigsbys.smugmug.com/Texas%20Wildflowers/472582

Thanks for the report Murry.

I think nature centers and managed wildflower areas will be a good option this year. I still have hopes that some areas will see near average blooms.

Just another update for folks near The Woodlands. The west side of Terramont and both sides of Branch Crossing between Research and Terrament Parkway are blooming with bluebonnets. These record temperatures (88 & 89 the last two days) have really popped them out!!

Here is a link to the new Spring Creek Greenway and the George Mitchell Nature Preserve here of the south side of The Woodlands: http://www.springcreekgreenway.org/news-mitchellpreserve.html

There is parking off of Flintridge just west of Gosling and the site has a PDF trail map.

Thanks Murry... Wow! 12,000 acres set aside for preservation along the Spring Creek. Did I read that correctly?

The nature preserve is 1,700 acres but the Spring Creek Greenway is probably 12,000 acres when you count the new additions that span both south Montgomery County and north Harris County. This is one of the things that The Woodlands had to agree to preventing it from being annexed by Houston.:) We pledged 45 million dollars worth of co-operative projects with houston and another 5 million dollars to Conroe but we are about to become the newly incorporated "The Woodlands Township" and self governed. I really think it was a win-win deal for all involved!!

Our bluebonnets are going down hill fast with the heat and light rain the last week or so. All the nice patches are also pretty well trampled down from all the family snaps. In their place we are seeing lots of scarlet flax along the roadsides.
