I visited Government Canyon State Natural Area today (4/6/2008). I checked my usual spots and found very few bluebonnets or any other wildflowers. The field coming into the area had a few spots of bluebonnets here and there. Along the trails and near the visitor center, I saw very very few wildflowers of any kind.
The wildscape in front of the visitor center was grown over with dead foliage from last year. I was a bit surprised to see the wildscape unattended and not managed like it was last year and the year before. I do not know if this is because of lack of funding or lack of volunteer help.
