04-12-2008, 10:25 PM xseption Joined on 03-02-2006 Richardson, TX (DFW) Posts 202 Ennis Report, April 13, 2008 I followed about 70% to 75% of the roads listed in the book Hunting Texas Wildflowers. I just did not survey the roads around Alma. I must say that there were just a few patches of bluebonnets to see around Ennis and those patches were mainly around Sugar Ridge Rd. The few patches seen were partly destroyed because of people sitting in the blue. Very disappointing. The neighbors around Ennis say that this year is a bust for bluebonnets. ~ edd two cents and then some ...    Report

I saw plenty of primrose along the way and I did catch some babyblue bluebonnets, but not much else. ~ edd two cents and then some ...    Report

The bluebonnets are starting to show up in patches along with other flowers. Please call or email or check this website for the latest status, especially if driving long distances. There are only a few scatterings and patches of bluebonnets on some of our trails at this time. One area that has the nicest blooms is Meadow View Nature Area, open 9 am- 8 pm, located off of Laneview Dr. (off of Hwy 34, Lake Bardwell Drive). Laneview is the last road on the right before you cross the Bardwell Lake Bridge, coming from Ennis. Turn right on Laneview, travel approximately 1 mile, turn left into Meadow View Nature Area. Bluebonnets are by the lake at Meadow View Nature Area. A few bluebonnets and other flowers are starting to show on Hwy 660, coming from Hwy 34 through Bristol. Sugar Ridge Rd. and Hwy 813 are also starting to show a few different flowers...bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush, the pink primrose, and yellow flowers. two cents and then some ...    Report

The area should have received enough rainfall in the fall for an average season and they have received above average in the past 30-60 days. One year I went the area got too much rain in March and many of the plants whithered and died from root rot. RichO Hunting Texas Wildflowers    Report

04-18-2008, 12:22 PM xseption Joined on 03-02-2006 Richardson, TX (DFW) Posts 202 Re: Ennis Report, April 13, 2008 Sounds like they are holding out some hope: Current Status for weekend of April 18-20, 2008 The Ennis Bluebonnet Festival is this weekend, April 18-20! There is not a great abundance of bluebonnets at this time but there are nice patches of bluebonnets along with other flowers on our trails. Indian Paintbrush, yellow flowers, pink primrose (buttercups) are also coming out at this time. It is a nice country drive. Due to the cool weather, the Ennis bluebonnets have not quite reached their peak as they are still coming out. Feel free to call the Ennis CVB for the latest status at 972-878-4748. PLEASE NOTE: During this Bluebonnet Festival weekend only, the bluebonnet trail maps and written instructions are distributed only from the Ennis Garden Club Headquarters tent on NW Main. Any other time in the month, the trail maps can be picked up at the Ennis Convention and Visitors Bureau during the month of April. two cents and then some ...    Report

At $3.25 a gallon for gas I've decided to pass on any more wildflower trips this year and will hope for a better showing and cheaper gas (yeah right) in 2009. Thanks for the report.
