What's the purple flower in this picture?

Rich: A variety of spiderwort with pink evening primrose (aka showy primrose). The primroses are commonly called buttercups, but there is a another species given the common name of large buttercup.

I think the purple flowers are "Spiderwort". Gary has an excellent wildflower ID section at his web site: http://www.texaswildflowerguide.com/home.htm

Hi, In addition to Gary's great resource, we have a photo gallery here for identifying wildflowers. http://community.wildflowerhaven.com/photos/identifying_wildflowers/default.aspx

We also have a resource library with links to other websites for identifying wildflowers. http://www.wildflowerhaven.com/resources.aspx

I added my answers (guesses) to your original post. Often you need to have a photo of the entire plant showing the leaves and stems along with a close up of the bloom to get a good identification of the wildflower.

I can also suggest purchasing:

Wildflowers of the Texas Hill Country by Marshall Enquist
