First bluebonnet sighting of 2009
Reply Quote
I was at Mercer Gardens on the north side of Houston yesterday and although the gardens are still in pretty rough shape because of Ike last summer I found three bluebonnets in bloom -- two blue and one red. We are very dry here which doesn't bode well for our spring wildflowers. Hopefully Mother Nature will surprise and prove me wrong?
Flowers will brighten your day whether mild or wild, Murry!

Hey Murry,
Thanks for the report!
I have posted my rainfall report on the front page and it echos what you have reported.

I think there might be some spots in your area that might see some blubonnets, especially if we start getting some rain sooon.

Here in the Hill Country, it is even drier...dust blowing and hardly any grass (dead or green). Some ranchers reportedly have taken down fences between their ranches to share water and what little winter grass there is.
