One large field >5 acres is located along RR 501 just west of RR 580 and Bend, TX. Small fields <1 acre are fairly common along county roads throughout the Hill Country, South Texas and Central Texas. Also, I was told that there are large cultivated fields near Harlingen in the Valley. Coming up in late August and September will be the Maximilian sunflowers.   RichO Hunting Texas Wildflowers    Report

See my pbase.com gallery on sunflowers, the dates should be good. http://www.pbase.com/richo/sunflowers The bloom period for Maximilian sunflowers is July-December, but in my experience photographing them in the Hill Country the best time is late September-October. The Maximilian sunflower is grazed by livestock, so finding large patches or fields is a bit tougher to do.  In the Hill Country, I usually find good patches along I-10 and a few of the county roads. Presently the common sunflower is in bloom and it can be found in most areas of Texas. RichO Hunting Texas Wildflowers    Report
