This is one segment of a very long field along the eastside of US 71 SE of Llano between CR-306 and CR-307. The field is well over 100 yars long. The bluebonnets spread into the wide shoulder.

Each year I select a bluebonnet bloom to be my "first photographed" of the year. This year, I picked this one. It is not a "perfect" bloom and already shows signs of aging, but it caught my eye. I like the added touch of the beetle.

This image shows the extend of the bluebonnet plant growth at this spot along US 87 about 16 southeast of the town of Mason. Coverage looks good, but slightly less than last year at the same spot. Particulary, the flat area near the fence was covered last year. This year there was only evidence of a few plants in the flat area.

Southern Corydalis (Corydalis micrantha)

I found these wildflowers just before a low water crossing along RR 1222 between Katemcy and Fredonia. The flowers covered one side of the embankment. I believe these are southern corydalis. They can be seen blooming in spots throughout the Hill Country right now.

This should be a great shot once the bluebonnets are in full bloom. I took this as I do all of my Willow City Loop shots from my car. Residents of Willow City Loop do not look kindly to people who stop along the road.
